I’m so making this. I’ve had cream of tartar in my cabinet forever and have never used it. I don’t even know why it’s there. I think it’s from my husbands house before we got married. In my experience, this play dough recipe doesn’t crumble and make as big of a mess as the store bought “Play-Doh”. It also lasts longer– we have a batch from well over a year ago that’s still going strong!I made some play dough rules with my 4 and 2 year olds and rehearsed them while making the play dough together. I have used this play dough with my Kindergarten students and my 2, 5 and 7 year old here at homeand will be sharingsome activitiesshortly, so keep an eye out for them. Now take the white Play-Doh and make 6 thin whiskers and place it on either side of the mouth. Your cute kitty is ready.

It dried out just a bit while cooling so I put a small amount of oil in my hands and worked it in. I highly recommend Americolor by the way – it’s well worth the money because you will use it for somany things – from many batches of playdough to cupcakes and more. It’s my favorite food color ever.

There may be some varieties that do, but this recipe does not involve boiling water. I’ve had comments from people saying that boiling water makes it faster, etc. That may be true, but this variety works well without it. May I add that in our church/preschool we make a lot of homemade playdough, and one tip we discovered was to add unsweetened kool-aid mix to the ingredients. Adds some color & great smell! When it wears off you know it is time for a new batch. One of my kids favorite activities is playing with play dough. Itis the perfect indoor activity for when it’s raining, too cold or too hot. When the weather’s nice we’ll even take it outside on the porch. My kids (age 8, 6 and 2) ALL love playing with play dough. My son pretends like he’s outgrowing it, but whenever my girls start playing with it, he always ends up joining in on the fun. I usually give them a few different colors, a mini rolling pin, some cookie cutters and let them go to town. I love seeing their imagination work. Why is this the best homemade playdough recipe? If you prefer knowing exactly what ingredients your children are playing with, this play dough is for you. The ingredients are simple, common household ingredients you probably already have around your house. This makes this playdough a perfect natural play option. I love this recipe. But I use less salt. I use a quarter cup and it works just fine. I also stopped using the dyes, as these are toxic. I use natural foods to make colored water to use in the play dough. I used 1/4 cup of blueberries, heated them in a little water (1.5 cups or so) until they popped. The water was as dark as I wanted. So I strained it and used it in the recipe.

Now make some six to seven tiny balls of the green Play-Doh, flatten them gently, and place them on top of the big blue shell to make some random spots on the shells to add to the beauty of the turtle. That completes your fun little blue and green Play-Doh turtle. Although I will say, for those of us with extremely hot gas stoves, even the lowest setting was not low enough. I could tell my dough was going to explode if I left it on any longer. I have a strong passion and love for teaching and creating meaningful learning experiences for my students. What I love most is watching children discover in those amazing light bulb moments. I hope Learning4kids brings you some useful ideas.
